Dubai's low cost carrier 'flydubai' has got DGCA's approval to start once-a-week flight between Dubai and Ahmedabad starting June 11, a DGCA official said here Saturday. India aviation industry needs $30 bn for full throttle growth

India is witnessing a boom in passenger and cargo traffic with 15% growth in passenger traffic recorded in 2010-11 at 142 mn passengers. Considering the growth in Indian economy and the need to develop aviation infrastructure, the industry requires investments worth 30 billion dollars (about Rs 135,000 crore) are required in the next 15 years, according to India Aviation Secretary, Nasim Zaidi.

Not all instructors or pilots lack credibility: DGCA training chief


In the wake of fake pilot license scam that shook the entire country, the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) decided to hire 420 personnel in its flying training directorate as some of the flying training schools (FTS) were also found helping students login more hours than they had actually flown.DNA speaks to recently appointed Capt Yashraj Tongia, director, flying training, DGCA.

Jet Sapphire - MDLR Airlines set to resume services in six months as Jet Sapphire

MDLR Airlines Private Ltd, a regional carrier that closed down in 2009, plans to restart operations in six months under the brand name Jet Sapphire, according to a report in the Mint. The Gurgaon-based airline has hired Shakti Lumba, who set up the operations of InterGlobe Aviation Private Ltd-run low-cost carrier IndiGo in 2005 and, before that, Air India Ltd’s regional arm Alliance Air, to head the airline.

Tests stare at 4,500 Pilots

More than 4,500 aspiring pilots will face a battery of “stringent” tests over the weekend as India’s civil aviation regulator tries to make the skies “safer” following the recent scandal over the award of pilot licences.
The tests will be conducted by the directorate-general of civil aviation (DGCA), which has been shaken by the revelations about a dozen-odd pilots with fake degrees and fudged flying-hour certificates, and about nepotism in clearing pilots with dubious test records.
